2014

Veteran crossing guard Dorothy McMillan returned her vest and hand-held stop sign to Columbus City Hall after 45 years of service. A surprise retirement party was held for McMillan at City Hall, where she was honored by fellow crossing guards, family and friends, and her supervisor, Lisa Williams.

1999

Columbus’ double-arch bridge at the Interstate 65 interchange with State Road 46 won a national design award, which was presented to city officials, bridge designers, builders and engineers by the Federal Highway Administration. The award was for highway structures costing more than $10 million.

1974

Opportunities for women in sports were expanding and Indiana offered more organized opportunities than many states, concluded the two principal speakers at the “Awareness — Women in Sports” seminar sponsored by the Columbus Mayor’s Task Force on the Status of Women.
