Carolyn Bruce Demas

COLUMBUS

Carolyn Bruce Demas entered into her heavenly home on July 15, 2021. She was born July 29, 1942, in Stanton, Kentucky to Walter and Gola Wilson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Don Demas whom she married July 20, 1963; son Timothy James Demas of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Dr. Valerie (Lenn) Detwiler of Avon, Indiana; brother, Walt Wilson of Crestwood, Kentucky; grandchildren, Danielle Rauch and Nicholas, Ella, Mae, Cora, and Harrison Detwiler and a great grandson, Peyton Rauch. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lalia Reed, Audrey Brown and Imogene Wesner; brothers-in-law, Jess Reed, Boyd Brown, and Ray Wesner.

She was a member of and attended First Christian Church as well as Flintwood Wesleyan Church of Columbus. In high school, she was a state vice president of the Future Homemakers of America and Indiana’s candidate for national secretary in 1959. In college at Ball State University she was an honor student and president of the Marky Beeman Home Economics Club, a student staff member and an active member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. She attained a bachelor’s degree from Ball State and a master’s degree from Indiana University. She taught for five years at Southport High School and one year at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis. She was a professor of Family and Consumer Sciences for 21 years at Vincennes University. She was president of the Alumni Association of Home Economics at Indiana University. She was a judge of the Homemakers fashion shows at the Indiana State Fair for five years. She enjoyed Greek cooking and made several family favorites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International. She was active in the Gideons Intl. Auxiliary and was chaplain for many years.

Funeral services for Carolyn will be 10:00 am on Monday July 19, 2021, at Jewell ~ Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery Seymour, Indiana. Friends and family are invited for a time of visitation on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carolyn to the Gideons International.
